Topic: Prevention of Hazing
Thesis: Hazing creates risks of harm to students; therefore, it should be prevented.
Draft:
Hazing is a realistic test and a task involving harassment, abuse or humiliation used as a way to intiatiating a person into a gang, club, sports team, or even just to hang out with a group of friends. Students/teens use hazing for "group bonding" and to embarass the new members. Hazing creates harm and it should be prevented. Students shouldn't be able to do that anymore because of the outcomes.
Others may think that hazing can be a good thing because it's like and intiation and team bonding for teens, for sports, and other group activities. Students haze because they want to get to know everyone and bond with them and build a bigger relationship between friends. They haze by doing activities to get to know each other. If students haze responsibly, hazing can be safe. Being able to bond with each other or build bigger relationships shouldn't be taken away from the children.
Hazing shouldn't be allowed because students use and abuse hazing to harm, humiliate, and embarass other students that just want to join the group, sport, or activities. Students use others that want to join the group. If they are being humiliated and embarassed, they wouldn't feel part of the group, they would just feel used and abused. They get harmed and hurt physically and emotionally. Hazing is divisive and dangerous, it should be prevented and banned. Most of the time students are being used because others with haze and hurt them, but most of the time, they wouldn't become part of the group. Hazing is a very serious and dangerous issue and it should be prevented before others get really hurt.
Not only does hazing hurt the students that are being abused, but it hurts future generations because it has a bad influence on them. Hazing should be prevented because it is setting a bad example for the youngens; teaching them that it is okay to criticize, humiliate, embarass, abuse, and harm other students. It's also teaching them that hazing is fun and that they should do it because the older kids are doing it. It brings to the topic of peer pressure. They are being pressured and so are the victims, they are being pressured to do things that humiliate all to just join a group. Because there is hazing, movies are being made with hazing in it, and that is also pressuring everyone and setting a bad examples.
No one deserves to go through pain that they shouldn't have to go through, but some have suffered from it and it caused them pain. If hazing was prevented a long time ago, it wouldn't have hurt a lot more people. Till this day, students are hazing, not only students, but adults. They are all setting bad examples, but also the media. Hazing is very harmful and embarassing and no one should have to suffer from it. Therefore, hazing can and should be prevented, it causes harm to all kinds of students and it should be taken away.

Geeze o_O, I really do need to wor on my Work Ethic.....
ReplyDeleteUhmmm... I thought that we had to have a bibliography, didn't we? and I don't really see the opposition to your essay. I think Mrs.S called it a "Boo, Hiss" thing.
But other than that, yeah, you and Amber are helping me with my essay (^-^)b
and I like your words :) Haha! youngens ;)
Thanks
Jisel,
ReplyDeletei think you need to organze it better because it seems to be mixed up. Like what we did in class there should be the arguements in them. Have fun doing the revision! :)

Hi Jisel,
ReplyDeleteFirst off, both of your commentators have some valid suggestions, but both of them do not do a thorough job of commentary. They give no specific examples of what needs to be improved.
Okay...here are my comments. You do have a "con"...it is the idea that hazing can have positive results (bonding). However, without any specific examples of specific groups that do use specific hazing practices that are responsible and do build group unity, your con is not sufficiently developed.
It is the same with your pro. You basically repeat the words "harm, humiliate, abuse, embarrass, and hurt" throughout the essay but do not give any specific examples from your research.
Since this is primarily a research essay, you are missing a pretty big requirement here.
Once you provide specific support, it will be easier to organize and your reader will not get "mixed up" as Thea pointed out.
Let me know if you have questions.

Jisel i like your essay but i think i can help you out because it seems like you and thea kind of have the same things going on. In your opposing side you should put that not everyone has a very harsh way of hazing;it could be done in a harmless manner that contributes to "team bonding" and its a simple intitiation tact that doesn't need to be exactly prevent. Something along those lines.(just a suggestion)But your opposing side has a good point:)
ReplyDeletei also like how you totally countered your opposing side to a strong pro argument. But there seems to be a lot of pro arguments. And just a few sentence fluency problems but nothing that cant be fixed:)
good luck
